On January 17, the European Union parliament voted on a new law that deals with waste. This law contains new and more stringent procedures, as well as measures to control the process of movement of waste, and not only waste paper. Representatives of Parliament are aware that, for example, the OCC 11 waste paper price is constantly changing and the demand for the same paper waste is constantly growing. It can be said that the European Union wants to manage the waste market. But is it?
At the moment, the law does not yet have the full preparation that is required to enter the final stage of its adoption. Only at the end of 2023 is it planned to finalize its text with the participation of representatives of the states that are members of the European Union. However, judging by the content, the following can already be noted.
The reason for the adoption of this law was the desire of the European Union to turn the waste generated in European countries into resources. These are the resources you can use. According to representatives of the European Parliament, this way it will be better to take care not only of the development of the economy, but also take care of the environment. It is also said that in this case, European countries will be able to become more competitive in those areas where you can use the resources obtained as a result of the reuse of waste.
Today, quite a lot of waste, including waste paper, is exported from European countries. As a result, the processing industry of European countries is experiencing a shortage of secondary raw materials. But with the help of processing, you can reduce the costs that are directed to the purchase of primary raw materials. Accordingly, it is beneficial for the economy of European countries.
The European Union has already voted for a ban that will be imposed on the shipment of waste that must be disposed of. The ban does not apply to situations where there is permission to export waste in certain cases and if there are serious grounds. The European Union believes that the waste generated on the territory of European countries is a responsibility. They do not need to be exported, because this threatens with losses not only for the economy. Waste can harm the environment of the countries where it will be exported.
