European paper prices began to rise

In Europe, there is an increase in prices for waste paper. The price increase began in September 2023. The change in prices mostly affected types of waste paper that are in little demand due to their characteristics and the amount of impurities. However, the cost of corrugated cardboard, including OCC 12, remains relatively stable for now. Experts say that this situation is related to the export of waste paper.

In previous months and today, efforts have been made in the waste paper market in Europe to prevent a strong difference between domestic prices and the price offered for exported raw materials. Local factories bought little because there were problems associated with low demand for products and increased pressure from buyers on the prices set.

At the same time, it should be noted that in Europe prices for sorted waste paper, which comes from large stores and supermarkets, have increased. The increase in cost affected many countries, in particular Germany, Italy, Spain, and France. The degree of growth in each country was different. In some countries the price increased by 5 euros per ton, in others – even by 10 euros. The reason for the growth lies, according to analysts, in the strong price difference observed today between exports and domestic market offers.
