US waste paper exports decline in 2023. However, India remains the United States’ largest customer in terms of volumes of purchased paper raw materials. But against the backdrop of the total number, experts still note that purchases have decreased. In turn, Thailand notes that in 2023 it purchased much more waste paper than in previous years. In the first 9 months, 17.5% less paper waste was exported from the United States compared to the same period in 2022. But at the end of the year, purchase volumes decreased by 13 percent. Of course, old corrugated cardboard prices and prices for other types of waste paper play a role. The waste paper market is unstable in terms of price indicators. The cost of some varieties periodically rises and falls.

Mexico and Malaysia are also among the major importers. In turn, China periodically pursues a policy of closing its ports for receiving waste paper, although, as is known, a considerable amount of recycled paper is exported from China to other countries. At the same time, China still periodically purchases various waste paper from the United States, but this only applies to certain varieties. Despite the situation associated with the decline in exports, American business is not worried about this. The demand for waste paper can change, although there are countries that constantly need it. In particular, this is India, where processing production is rapidly developing.
